Reset a consumer group's offsets
Move, delete, or clear the committed offsets of a consumer group.
Each change needs a cluster with writable: true and the privilege the section names.
Kafka changes the offsets only of a group without members. Before you reset offsets or delete a group, stop the consumers of the group. The group page shows the members on the Members tab.
Move the committed offsets
You need reset_offsets.
- Open the group from Consumer groups and select Reset offsets.
- Pick a Topic, or keep Every committed topic.
- Optional: when you picked a topic, pick a Partition, or keep All partitions.
- In Reset to, pick the target:
- Earliest offset moves to the start of each partition.
- Latest offset moves to the end of each partition.
- Offset moves to the offset you enter.
- Shift by moves by the number of records you enter. A negative number moves back.
- Date and time moves to the first record at or after the time you enter.
- Check the Preview. It lists each partition with the committed offset, the new offset, and the lag after the reset. klens changes nothing until you confirm.
- Select Reset offsets.
The consumers continue from the new offsets when they rejoin. While the group has members, Reset offsets stays disabled, and the preview still works.
Shift by fails on a partition where the group has no committed offset. Pick a topic or a partition with committed offsets, or use another target.
Delete the offsets of one topic
You need delete_offsets. Use this when a group stopped reading a topic and you want its old offsets gone.
- Open the group, open the ⋯ menu, and select Delete offsets.
- Pick the Topic. klens suggests a committed topic that no member consumes.
- Select Delete offsets.
Kafka deletes the offsets only of a topic that no member of the group consumes. If the group reads the topic again, its consumers start from their auto.offset.reset policy.
Delete a group
You need delete_groups.
- Open the group, open the ⋯ menu, and select Delete group.
- Type the group ID to confirm, and select Delete group.
Kafka deletes the group and its committed offsets. You cannot undo the deletion.
