Set client quotas

Throttle Kafka clients by user, client ID, or IP address.

The Quotas page needs the broker_configs privilege, and changes need alter_quotas on a cluster with writable: true. The Kafka user of klens needs DescribeConfigs on the Cluster resource to read quotas.

Set a quota

  1. On Quotas, select Set quota. To change an existing quota, select its row.
  2. Pick the Entity: User, Client ID, User and client ID, or IP.
  3. Enter each name. To set the default for every entity without a quota of its own, turn on Default.
  4. Enter the values. Leave a value empty for no limit.
    • Produce and Consume in bytes per second.
    • Request time as a percentage.
    • Mutations per second.
    • Connections per second, for an IP entity only.
  5. Select Save.

Kafka throttles the clients that match the entity. A save replaces every value of the entity, so an empty value removes that limit.

Remove a quota

Select Remove quota on the row, then Remove quota in the dialog. Kafka stops throttling the matching clients by this quota. A default quota can still apply to them.
